A Note from the Teacher

Grades 5-12

October 2011

Happy Autumn!  These are exciting times here at Easthampton High School:  Students are doing 75% of their homework online and loving it!  There is less paperwork and more experience using 21st century tools in an academic and meaningful way.  In the intermediate classes at both White Brook Middle School and EHS, we are reading and discussing poetry, fables, short stories, historical narratives all on the theme of challenges. We are learning about challenges people face and reflecting on our own challenges.  As part of our school-home connection, some students will be interviewing their family members and asking them some of the following questions:

What big challenge(s) have you faced?

Cuéntame de un gran reto que hayas tenido.

Why was it a challenge?

¿Por qué lo consideraste un reto?

What did you do to meet the challenge?

¿Qué hiciste para confrontar el reto?

In our advanced beginner class at White Brook, we are reading various texts on the theme of cultural traditions. Students will also soon be interviewing family members about special traditions.  As the days get "shorter" and the clocks "fall back"  there is so much language learning happening in our classrooms and it is GREAT to see!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at parent-teacher conferences on October 27th.

Until then,

Mrs. R. Madera
